The best entry-level cloud certification in 2026, picked by where you start
Three certs sit at the serious entry tier in 2026: AWS Cloud Practitioner (CLF-C02), Microsoft Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900), and Google Cloud Digital Leader. They are not interchangeable. The right one depends on where you are heading, not which cloud "wins."
The three at a glance
| Cert | Provider | Length | Questions | Passing score |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| CLF-C02 | AWS | 90 min | 65 | 700 / 1000 |
| AZ-900 | Microsoft | 60 min | ~40 | 700 / 1000 |
| Cloud Digital Leader | 90 min | ~55 | Pass / Fail |
All three sit between $99 and $125 USD. All three are recognized as a green-light hiring signal, not a salary signal. Recruiters use them to confirm you can speak the cloud's vocabulary. They do not move comp on their own.
How to pick
Pick AWS CLF-C02 if your target market runs on AWS. That is most US startups, most West Coast tech, most fintech. The follow-on catalog is the heaviest of the three (Solutions Architect, Developer, SysOps, then specialties). See /certifications/clf-c02.
Pick Azure AZ-900 if you are heading toward enterprise or government work. Microsoft-shop environments dominate Office 365 estates, healthcare IT, and the US public sector. AZ-900 also pairs cleanly with M365 Fundamentals and the Power Platform track. See /certifications/az-900.
Pick Cloud Digital Leader if you are at a Google-shop, in advertising tech, or in data and analytics. The follow-on path to Associate Cloud Engineer (/certifications/ace) and then Professional Cloud Architect (/certifications/pca) is shorter than the AWS or Azure equivalents.
What "entry-level" actually means here
These are concept-recognition certs. None of them require you to deploy infrastructure on the exam. The resume value is real, and it caps fast. Stack a real associate cert (SAA-C03, AZ-104, or ACE) within six months, or your fundamentals cert decays into a line nobody reads.
What to skip
Do not collect multiple entry-level certs across different clouds. One cloud, one fundamentals, then move to the associate. Also skip 12-week study plans. None of these need more than 25 to 30 hours from zero. Six weeks of honest evenings is plenty, and longer plans usually mean you are reviewing instead of testing.

If you are not sure which of the three is closest to where you are today, run the free CAT evaluation at claudelab.me. ARIA adapts every question to what you just answered, stops at 95 percent confidence, and tells you which cert you are nearest to passing right now. That answer is more useful than any tier list.
