PMI-ACP exam prep, adaptive plan with ARIA

PMI-ACP is PMI's Agile Certified Practitioner cert, the agile credential that PMI candidates take alongside or after PMP. The exam is 180 minutes, 120 multiple-choice questions. It covers Scrum, XP, Lean, Kanban, and hybrid frameworks, because PMI is intentionally framework-agnostic. That is a different shape from CSM and PSM-I, which test one framework deeply. PMI-ACP tests breadth across all major agile approaches plus PMI-style situational judgment.

What the exam is

The current Examination Content Outline has seven domains.

DomainWeight
Agile Principles and Mindset~16%
Value-Driven Delivery~20%
Stakeholder Engagement~17%
Team Performance~16%
Adaptive Planning~12%
Problem Detection and Resolution~10%
Continuous Improvement~9%

PMI does not publish a fixed cut score. Questions are weighted by difficulty.

Eligibility

PMI requires 21 contact hours of agile training, 12 months of general project experience in the last 5 years, and 8 months of agile project experience in the last 3 years. Active PMP and PgMP credentials satisfy the general experience requirement automatically.

How ARIA preps you for it

The CAT eval lands a per-domain skill estimate. Most candidates land heavy on Value-Driven Delivery and Continuous Improvement, because the metrics-and-measurement questions (cycle time, lead time, throughput, value stream mapping) catch practitioners who used agile but never owned the metrics layer. ARIA weights your roadmap to those gaps. The error backlog tags by trap pattern: predictive vocabulary in agile context, mixing Scrum and XP terminology, conflating velocity with productivity.

Common pitfalls on this cert

Studying only Scrum. PMI-ACP tests XP, Lean, Kanban, and Crystal too. Scrum-only prep loses 30+ percent of the points.

Treating it as PMP-with-agile. PMI-ACP situational stems lean on team-empowerment answers, not framework-tool answers. Different reflex.

Underestimating the value-and-metrics domain. Cycle time, throughput, EVM-on-agile-projects all show up. Read the metrics chapter twice.

Note on PMI's evolving agile credentials

PMI is updating its agile certification suite in 2025-2026. PMI-ACP is current at the time of writing. Check pmi.org for any recent transition announcements before sitting.

The pass guarantee
